Residents advised of roadworks in Bo-Kaap, Fresnaye, Gardens

28 August 2020

The City’s Transport Directorate will be working on roads in Fresnaye, Bo-Kaap and Gardens from 31 August 2020 until 25 September 2020, pending inclement weather and unforeseen delays.

The roadworks in the Bo-Kaap are planned for 7 September 2020 to 25 September 2020 and entail the resurfacing of Chiappini Street. Belmont Avenue in Gardens will also be resurfaced.

At the corner of Ocean View Drive and De Wet Road in Fresnaye, work will entail the construction of a sidewalk.

The works are part of general maintenance and will take place between 08:00 and 17:00 on weekdays. Traffic will be affected in both directions and flag personnel will assist to regulate traffic in one direction at a time.

Work areas will also be temporarily demarcated to regulate traffic flow.

‘The City’s road network is one of our most important assets and we are undertaking regular maintenance to prolong its longevity. I appeal to all road users in these areas to work with the flag personnel and to comply with the signage. Residents and motorists must please note that vehicles may be parked in the driveways as per normal, but only if and when access is available. However, parked vehicles that obstruct the sidewalk construction operation will be moved or towed away,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.

Best is for motorists and road users to avoid the areas where the roadworks are ongoing, as it is difficult to remove bitumen from vehicles’ bodies.

‘We do not expect congestion, but I recommend that road users consider alternative routes if possible. I am thanking all for your cooperation, together, the City moves forward,’ said Alderman Purchase.
